Molybdenum Disulfide Coatings (MoS2 coatings), also known as Moly Coatings are commonly used in applications where load carrying capacity, operating pressure and coefficient of friction are primary concerns. This coating provides effective lubrication in a wide range of loads, in many cases exceeding 250,000 psi. Moly coatings lubricate sacrificially by transferring lubricant between the two mating surfaces, which helps to reduce wear and coefficient of friction. Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) coatings are a dry film lubricant.

Moly Coating Properties

Moly coating is a combination of molybdenum disulfide lubricant and high performance resins. Molybdenum Disulfide coatings are thermally cured and thoroughly bonded to the base metal of the coated part. Uses for molybdenum disulfide coatings include applications that require a lubricant that is more unreactive when in use, and remains sturdy. Molybdenum disulphide MoS2 is widely used in tribological applications because of its solid lubricating properties. For example sputtered MoS2 coatings can be applied on steel components for ball bearings to be used in absence of liquid lubricants.

For metal/metal combinations with slow to medium fast movements and high loads. Suitable for the permanent lubrication of highly stressed sliding guides with low sliding speeds, oscillating movements or intermittent operation. Used for improving the running-in process and for lubrication under high vacuum and at extreme temperatures. Used successfully for cylinder-head bolts, toaster guides, car mirror adjustment mechanisms, high voltage switches, for the running-in of highly stressed gear wheel. Emergency Lubricant for parts of the rotor head of wind energy installations and for groove-free cold extrusion of steel.
